In this course, you'll learn about operators, which let you assign values to variables and test the value inside those variables. We'll also explore control structures which let us control how our program runs, making our programs more efficient and intelligent. During the course, we'll be writing simple programs that build on what you've learned in this and previous courses. You don’t need to have Ruby installed on your computer to follow along. You can follow along with the course by writing code in Workspaces.
Explore about full-stack web development practices with 'Ruby on Rails' to build highly scalable applications in shorter time span compared to its counterparts using concepts like MVC, Gems, Action View, Action Controller, Active Record & Deployment and Web Application Projects.
This is the first within a series of three Nanodegree programs designed to take you from no programming experience to a senior-level position. Check out the entire series of Nanodegree programs:
In our previous Ruby on Rails projects, we created a simple social network called Treebook. So far we can create statuses and have friends. Now we’re ready to implement the fun stuff! In this project, we’ll be adding file uploads, image galleries, and activity feeds to our application. We’ll also be implementing push updates via polling.
In Ruby Loops, you'll learn how to automatically repeat statements using Ruby. You'll learn about the loop construct, including while loops, until loops, for loops, and more. You'll also learn the basics of iteration and then move on to creating a simple contact list management program.
Did you ever want to build a web application? Perhaps you even started down that path in a language like Java or C#, when you realized that there was so much “climbing the mountain” that you had to do? Maybe you have heard about web services being all the rage, but thought they were too complicated to integrate into your web application. Or maybe you wondered how deploying web applications to the cloud works, but there was too much to set up just to get going. In this course, we will explore how to build web applications with the Ruby on Rails web application framework, which is geared towards rapid prototyping. Yes, that means building quickly! At the conclusion of this course, you will be able to build a meaningful web application and deploy it to the “cloud” using a Heroku PaaS (Platform as a Service). Best of all, it will almost feel effortless… Really! “But wait”, you will say, “there is no way that we can build a useful application if there is no database involved. You need the data for an application to be useful.” Great point! But what if… instead of getting the data from the database, we get it from the internet by tapping into one of the web services out there that readily provides data needed by our application? “Ok, but that’s probably very complicated”, you will say. Take this course and you will be pleasantly surprised at just how easy it is!
In this course, we'll polish and clean-up an existing Ruby on Rails application. We'll go over our ODOT application and make sure that it's ready for launch. We'll make sure that all of the styles are up to date, the test suite passes, and clean up any unused views and routes.
